West Boylston Arts Foundation Brings Back Summer Theatre to West Boylston

Ambitious Young Director Gives Back to her Community with the premier of contemporary, provocative musical: The Last Five Years

June 20, 2008: The West Boylston Arts Foundation(WBAF) , through special arrangement with Music Theatre International(MTI), and the support of the West Boylston Insurance Agency, Inc, is proud to present the musical, The Last Five Years.

“As part of an ongoing effort to sustain and enhance the arts culture in West Boylston, we are extremely excited to bring back live summer theatre to West Boylston,” said WBAF president Jim Brissette.

The Last Five Years is a phenomenal musical, a bit on the edge, and a little provocative, giving West Boylston a flavor of contemporary Broadway.

The double-cast show, directed by Lindsay Brissette and music director Jim Joinville, features Maya Murphy, Joe Petmezis, Emily Stark and Mark Blessington.

The story chronicles the five years of a married couple, Cathy and Jamie. The characters share their relationship, each from their own points of view.  The twist is that Cathy lives it from breakup to first meeting and Jamie from first meeting to breakup.  The Last Five Years is full of thought-provoking themes as well as fantastic melodies and humor.

During Director Lindsay Brissette’s senior year in high school, she had the idea to bring summer theatre back to West Boylston, making it a fundraiser for the WBAF. Lindsay has volunteered to direct the musical and has secured a music director to donate his time as well.

“This could be the seed to bring back live theatre AND help generate the much needed funding to keep the arts alive in the schools, ”said Jim Brissette.

The Last Five Years will be one of many ongoing fundraisers for the WBAF.

The West Boylston Arts Foundation  was organized in 2007 in response to the loss of arts education in the West Boylston school system.

The Last Five Years is scheduled for August 21, 22, 23 at 7 p.m.  with a matinee on the 23rd at 2 p.m. at the West Boylston High School Auditorium. Visit www.wbaf.org for ticket information.

The Last Five Years is presented through special arrangements with Music Theatre International  (MTI).  All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI.
