Mosaic Mural Project

Major Edwards' K-5 Bicenentennial Commemoration

The West Boylston Arts Foundation, Inc. (WBAF) sponsored a mosaic mural project for Major Edwards' students in grades K-5.  The 4 ft X 8 ft mural is a montage of images based on students' drawings that were completed in early January to commemorate West Boylston's 2008 Bicentennial Celebration.   The mural is a compilation of student artwork, and all students participated in the assembly of the mural. The completed mural will be permanently displayed in the front lobby of Major Edwards School.

Mosaic artist Cindy Fisher (www.bigbangmosaics.com) created the mural layout using student drawings, and she and West Boylston Arts Foundation secretary, Sarah O'Connor, supervised the assembly of the mosaic.  Students in grades K through 2 helped to lay border and background tiles on the mosaic.  Students in grades 3 through 5 learned how to use tile nippers to cut the tiles and helped assemble the mosaic.  Students in grade 5, in addition to cutting tiles and assembling them, helped to grout the mosiac.
